Subject Concerned: Cargo Airport
Passenger traffic at Port Columbus International Airport tumbled 23 percent in March amid a continued slump in air travel, the Columbus Regional Airport Authority reported.
Statistics for last month showed 529,875 passengers used the airport, down from 687,609 a year earlier. Much of the drop was attributable to the absence of Skybus Airlines Inc. from the roster of the airport's commercial carriers. Columbus-based Skybus failed in April 2008 after carrying nearly 125,000 passengers in March.
Meanwhile, cargo traffic at Rickenbacker International Airport plunged 25 percent last month to 13.8 million pounds from 18.3 million in March 2008, the authority reported.
Passenger traffic in the first quarter at Port Columbus was down a fourth at nearly 1.4 million passengers, compared with about 1.9 million in the first three months of 2008.
