Austin Air Traffic Already Down 13% This Year

Passenger traffic at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (ABIA) is down for March and for the first three months of the year, the latest data shows.

Nearly 664,000 passengers moved through the Austin airport last month, down 15 percent from March 2008, according to ABIA.

American Airlines, Austin's second-largest carrier, led the decline with a 38 percent drop in passenger traffic. United Airlines' passenger count was down nearly 20 percent, while Delta Air Lines fell 35 percent. The city's largest carrier, Southwest, was up 5 percent and JetBlue Airways was up 88 percent.

Cargo traffic for the month was down 26 percent compared with March 2008 and general aviation operations dropped 20 percent.

Passenger traffic so far this year is down 13 percent to 1.8 million people. Air cargo for the first three months dropped 28 percent and general aviation operations declined 22 percent.
