Subject Concerned: Cargo Airport
Passenger traffic at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport was down 11 percent for the first quarter of 2009 compared with the same period in 2008.
The Phoenix airport hosted 9.3 million passengers during the first quarter of 2009, down from 10.5 million for the year-earlier period, according to the Phoenix Aviation Department, which owns and runs Sky Harbor. That translates into 1.2 million fewer passengers flying into and out of the airport.
The recession and decreased consumer spending also have cut into air cargo, which is down 18 percent for the quarter versus first-quarter 2008.
For the month of March, passenger traffic was down 10 percent from a year earlier.
