Daytona Beach International Airport has announced that passenger traffic in April was 49,036, a 38 percent plunge from the 78,752 passengers recorded in April 2008.
For the 12-month period ending April 30, total passenger traffic has dropped 32 percent. In the last year, it has had 478,460 passengers, compared to 699,559 passengers for the prior 12 months.
Airport officials said the drop reflected the ongoing recession that has impacted many commercial airports throughout the country. It also reflects the loss of AirTran Airways and Continental Airlines, both of which discontinued service last year.
