Hawaii to Get US$7 Million for Airport Improvements

Hawaii will get more than US$7 million in airport-related grants from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

On May 29, Sen. Daniel Inouye, D-Hawaii, announced the funding for airport improvements.

One grant, for more than US$6.8 million will be used to construct a new Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting station west of the existing ARFF station at Molokai Airport.

Construction is expected to start in September.

An automated weather observing station, operated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), will be relocated to the new ARFF station.

Hilo International Airport will receive US$79,090 to complete noise exposure maps.
