Asia's largest carrier, Japan Airlines (JAL), cancelled one domestic flight while 18 more were delayed on Aug. 2 due to a computer glitch.

Nearly 5,000 people were affected after JAL reported problems with its check-in system on the afternoon of Aug. 2, preventing passengers from going through departure gates smoothly at domestic airports, mostly at Tokyo's Haneda airport, a company spokesman said.

"The check-in system has a slow response problem and passengers can only slowly go through departure gates," the spokesman said.

The trouble had affected at least 4,837 passengers by 18:00 pm (09:00GMT), he said, adding: "We are still investigating the cause of the trouble."

JAL faced a similar technical glitch in early June after it introduced new software for electronic tickets.
