The navigation system and runway of a new airport in Erenhot on the China-Mongolia border were successfully tested on Dec. 16, and authorities announced the airport is scheduled to open next month.
The airport, 32 km away from the border and costing 257 million yuan, was designed to handle large long-haul and medium-range regional aircraft.
The airport will be able to handle roughly 150,000 passengers a year, and can process a maximum of 600 passengers in one hour.
