Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport will receive US$2.3 million in economic recovery funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to rehabilitate a runway that will help the airport to handle its capacity.
The U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced the grant to D/FW Airport on Dec. 29.
David Magana, manager of public affairs for D/FW Airport, said on Dec. 29, the funding "is welcomed and will be put to good use".
The funding will be used for a pavement repair project on a runway on the west side of the airport, Magana said. The project will be completed by the end of 2010.
Under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, US$1.1 billion has been issued to aid airport projects nationwide.
The U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said with the issuance of the D/FW Airport grant, the agency has committed all of the FAA's recovery act dollars to 360 projects across the country.
D/FW Airport received US$7 million to US$8 million earlier this year to complete a lighting project, as well as shoulder repairs. The funding also helped D/FW Airport to replace a fence near a portion of the airport, Magana said.
