Subject Concerned: Plane Crash
Four people were killed on Jan. 11 when a light plane crashed near La Serena city, some 474 km north of the Chilean capital of Santiago, according to the country's air force.
"The control tower of the La Serena airport confirmed that they had found the light plane in La Cachimba valley, 22 km inside from La Serena, and unfortunately the four people onboard died," said Rodrigo Ceballos, coordinator of the air force's search and rescue service.
The four killed include the pilot and three businessmen.
Ceballos said the single-engine Mooney plane, which took off at 10:30 a.m. local time (13:30GMT) on Jan. 11 from an airport in La Serena, was flying to Santiago.
The cause of the accident is still unknown.
