Subject Concerned: Cargo Airport
Passenger numbers at Frankfurt airport, the main hub of Germany's Lufthansa, rose for the first time in more than a year and a half in December, adding to signs that demand for air travel is recovering.
The number of passengers that passed through the airport edged up by 2.3 percent from the year-earlier period to 3.85 million, airport operator Fraport said on Jan. 15.
Freight volumes jumped by 29.1 percent compared with December 2008, when volumes had dropped by 26.0 percent as the worldwide economic crisis led to a collapse in global trade.
Lufthansa earlier this week reported a 19.1 percent rise in December passenger traffic, helped by a slew of acquisitions, while cargo demand continued to improve.
