Australia: Airports Unite for Regional Aviation Hub

Subject Concerned: Government   Airport

The Taree, Port Macquarie and Kempsey airports all have future expansion plans and have submitted a joint application for Federal Government grant funding.

Lyne MP Robert Oakeshott has helped organise the joint approach.

"Essentially a proposal has been put to try and get some money for a range of different things in and around the airport," he said.

"All three have got growth plans whether to do with aviation or to do with business in and around aviation and around the airport.

"So each has some requests for some money."

Mr Oakeshott says it makes sense for them to combine and form a regional aviation hub.

"There has been a proposal put to government about the mid-north coast aviation centre of excellence, which really does involve the Taree, Port Macquarie and Kempsey airports," he said.

"I'm really pleased with the support from the three councils involved.

"I think everyone can see we are much stronger through working together rather than being competitive against each other."
