American Airlines Inc., which began dispatching flights last week to deliver supplies to victims of the earthquake in Haiti, is now working with relief agencies to transport physicians and medical supplies.
Regional carrier American Eagle also is partnering with agencies to offer aid.
Starting Jan. 20, American has plans to fly three relief missions from Miami using Boeing 737s to transport medical staff as well as 10,000 pounds of food, supplies and medicine.
Fort Worth-based American, a subisidiary of AMR Corp., added that it's working in partnership with St. Joseph Hospice in Jacksonville, Fla., Yele Haiti, Medishare and Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami.
American already has plans for the returning flights, which are expected to transport evacuees as determined by the U.S. Department of State.
On Jan. 20, 179 passengers were evacuated from Haiti and arrived in Sanford, Fla.
Additional relief flights are scheduled for Jan. 22 and Jan. 27.
American also is transporting military personnel and officials with the government to Haiti.
American Eagle is continuing to fly aircraft on relief missions between San Juan, Puerto Rico and Haiti.
