First class and business class passengers on American Airlines traveling to and from Tokyo will be offered a menu designed by Hawaii chef Sam Choy.

American, owned by AMR Corp, made the announcement on Feb. 1.

Choy's menu is described as Asian-fusion - hibachi miso chicken, wok barbeque shrimp and wasabi-crusted salmon - designed to complement the carrier's in-flight menu that includes traditional Japanese food fare.

The meals must be ordered by passengers 24 hours in advance.

American offers regularly scheduled service between Tokyo Narita and Dallas/Fort Worth, Chicago O'Hare, Los Angeles, and New York's John F. Kennedy.

American was the fourth-largest carrier serving Hawaii in 2008. Its direct Honolulu-Tokyo flights are operated via Japan Airlines.
