China Eastern Airlines intends to give Singapore Airlines executives a prominent role in management if plans for a strategic investment in the Chinese airline are approved, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing chairman Li Fenghua.
Li said China Eastern will take 10 Singapore Airlines executives on permanent assignment while sending 20 of its own managers to Singapore for six months.
"We hope that with this kind of arrangement, the whole management structure will be beefed up. This is the most important thing," Li said.
Singapore Airlines and Temasek, the investment arm of the Singapore government, reached an agreement with China Eastern in early September to buy a combined 25 pct stake in the airline at HK$3.80 per share. A shareholder vote on the deal is expected on Jan 8.
