Nanjing Lukou International Airport Co will spend 10 billion yuan doubling its capacity because of rising traffic.
The airport will build a second runway and terminal, raising its capacity to 25 million passengers a year, vice-president Xu Yong said on Jun. 18.
He said that the project will start this year but did not provide a completion date.
Nanjing airport plans to handle 10 million passengers this year, its design capacity, as China's economic growth makes air travel affordable to more people.
The airfield is also expanding to support its ambitions of becoming an international cargo hub.
