Subject Concerned: Airlines Cargo
A former Qantas executive has become the first person in the world to be jailed for price-fixing on international air cargo.
Radio Australia's Washington correspondent, Kim Landers, reports a US judge sentenced Bruce McCaffrey to six months in jail after he pleaded guilty to taking part in a conspiracy to fix international air cargo charges.
His lawyer described the 65-year-old as hard-working, patriotic, loyal and devoted.
Judge John Bates has told the hearing that he's bothered that those most responsible at Qantas for setting up the scheme will never face a US court.
Mr McCaffrey was Qantas's most senior executive in North America, and the US citizen worked for the airline for 25 years.
He's told the court he was very embarrassed about the situation.
