There's been yet another mechanical glitch on a Qantas flight heading from Melbourne to Canberra this morning.

Australia's national carrier says the problem with one of its planes at Melbourne Airport was in the air conditioning system.

The aircraft was taxiing down the runway at 11.30 to fly to Canberra when the problem was detected - resulting in the flight's cancellation.

Passenger Matthew Smith says the crew decided to turn around when they heard a noise coming from the undercarriage.

"They mentioned that there may have been a fault in the air conditioning system. The engineers had had a tentative look at it first up.

"Then they decided they weren't going to take any chances and wanted to have a more detailed look at it. That was why the plane was brought back to the terminal and the passengers disembarked."
