Subject Concerned: Airlines   Flight Delay   Airport

All Nippon Airways resumed normal services on Sep. 15, one day after its domestic flight operations were disrupted by a computer system glitch.

All of ANA's scheduled flights are operating again after the company adopted emergency measures to restore the computer system. Delays continue on some routes, however.

On Sep. 14, about 1,000 online terminals malfunctioned at check-in counters of ANA and another airline at 50 airports in Japan.

The trouble disrupted the boarding procedures for passengers, resulting in the cancellation of 61 flights. More than 54,000 passengers were affected.

ANA says it is still trying to determine the cause of the problem.

While most ordinary people always assume airlines, airports and other aviation organizations/agencies actually tend to have fairly decent back-up systems and procedures in place, but the appalling experience often shocks the traveling public nicely when such unfortunate reality strikes.
